The final ring join has little trick to do it. I have made it using one shuttle, and thread size 10.<br />
Here is its picture.<br />

you start by doing a basic motif with just rings, and chain (mine is
ring 3-3-3-3 , ch is 2-2-2-2) You make any numbers of rings, and chains,
then close the moti<span class="text_exposed_show">f.<br /> Second round, you start to make rings , and interlock chains. you can make any numbers.<br />
The only trick doing an interlock chain is to keep one of your shuttle,
and its ball in front of your work, when you start to use your second
color.<br /> Here is the motif, and step by step pictures, I have made for you to see the stages of making an interlock chain. </span><br />

I have made this pattern using one shuttle out of ball. This is LOVELY motif, and has a skill of doing a Catherine Wheel joining.
Here is the picture of my motif:<br />

I have made it using thread size 40, and one shuttle out of ball. It is not big deal butterfly-in my opinion. Just motifs join with the center of the butterfly which is simpler than the motifs. I think a beginner can do this pattern. It is a charted pattern.<br />
<br />
Here its picture<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWTs6evIfqakZ_LVGIO36wgxzN_JIzh1UcsUzqJ6M1qlOGZb8cxUCVeiL6wmBj2BFjDg9YPh3DRuHce-ngqji1IOfbBHbEMvOulp8graUtEhfT3E1hdieN4MFSJdA0FVZFXmweoHq7vEk6/s1600/DSCN0362.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWTs6evIfqakZ_LVGIO36wgxzN_JIzh1UcsUzqJ6M1qlOGZb8cxUCVeiL6wmBj2BFjDg9YPh3DRuHce-ngqji1IOfbBHbEMvOulp8graUtEhfT3E1hdieN4MFSJdA0FVZFXmweoHq7vEk6/s1600/DSCN0362.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
An idea of sewing it on a fabric, or use it as an applique.<br />
We can add sequins, and beads to sewing it , and in the same time will add a beautiful touch in it.<br />

I have made this one using Egyptian cotton size 40, and two shuttles in some stages, and one shuttle in another stages. This is a charted pattern.<br />
I want to say something about this collar, "I LOVE IT". Usually I don't admire what I am doing , just like it, and try to learn something new, but this one I really really enjoyed doing it, love it during making it, love it after I finished it, still in love with it lolol.<br />
Here is its pictures, and stages of making it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Now its stages<br />
First stage ,<br />
I have made this stage using two shuttles. In this stage I have defined the suitable length of the collar by doing enough- for me- units.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5mOLKzdHqA1zcljLtpyf5Zfkjx0SsUtvk3UPSXK19hc2Q5vt_RFiLha4mIz_31p8Spcd9yoH1KG5OA6aj_0LIzoXVzcgLsjL1zHb6bzFMslQaNq-sIEbP3gF2eQZg9OLtMJuQ356Z1Fi-/s1600/DSCN0258.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5mOLKzdHqA1zcljLtpyf5Zfkjx0SsUtvk3UPSXK19hc2Q5vt_RFiLha4mIz_31p8Spcd9yoH1KG5OA6aj_0LIzoXVzcgLsjL1zHb6bzFMslQaNq-sIEbP3gF2eQZg9OLtMJuQ356Z1Fi-/s1600/DSCN0258.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
Second stage<br />
It is the inner edge, and it is been done in two parts.<br />

In second stage I have used two shuttles. This stage was really tricky- for me- As I have made each flower with its leaves one by one, and joined that flowers with first stage. The last stage of doing it was the edge with one shuttle out of ball again. the edge was two rounds. The first one was wide, and make the doily ruffled!!! The second round makes it just nice edge as it narrowed that ruffles.It is middle size doily -about 43 cm across.<br />
Here are its pictures (the only mistake I did when I get its final picture is ,I got it AFTER I wash it) I didn't block it well so its final picture was not good as it is in a real)<br />

I LOVED working with fine thread more. It is very easy, and comfortable. They always said that beginner should use bigger thread to learn, I agree with them , but want to add that you need bigger thread to "SEE" what you are learning NOT because it is easier to deal with bigger thread, and bigger needle or hook.<br />
<br />
From my little experience, and through my learning I have used thread size 10, 20, 30, 40, and believe me the more I go through finer thread the easier I tat. It happened the same with me when I crocheted, and even knitted . So when I use finer crochet hook, and very finest thread like thread size 100 it was easier for me.<br />
<br />
so what is the easier aspects of working with fine thread, and fine hook or needle??!!!<br />
First , it is so so light to carry that fine hook or needle, and also that fine thread.<br />
Second , it will give you better results specially with tatting, and crochet.<br />
Third , it will be easier to mange that fine thread , and it will be easier to finish your stitch.<br />
Forth, you will get so so nice delicate , and lacy work so you will LOVE the results more.<br />
<br />
Now here are the picture of my new motif,<br />

It a charted pattern. Still love charted pattern in any craft including tatting. I have practised some new things in this pattern like the flower motif , and that circular chain. I have used Sewmate shuttle , and love it because it holds good amount of thread , and it is tight to give me a good gauge.<br />
The first edge of this collar which is around the neck was really trick for me because there is thread between two rings, and I wanted to keep the same length of that thread, so I have mark 4mm on my index finger , and use it as a ruler to measure the length between rings. lol any way it is what came to my mind to solve my problem.<br />
Still need to perfect my picots, and my stitches; I still don't like my stitches, and picots. I think tatting needs more good , and even stitches , and picots. I need to learn how to get the same length of picots without "picot gouge." I cannot use it for every single picot. <br />

Happy tatting for all of you.Lilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11140942136010436677noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5582992977224329368.post-10048145362673101862015-01-02T21:43:00.002-08:002015-01-03T03:22:35.680-08:00My tatting doily<div style="text-align: left;">
I have made this doily using a cotton thread size 20, and one shuttle. I like to use the method shuttle out of ball than two shuttles. I don't use two shuttles until I use both of them. This thread is an Egyptian cotton with silk finishing . It is very nice to work with , but it is slippery , and need to work in tight way to get better result.This doily is about 40 cm across.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Nothing new about this doily just ds(s), and picots. and after you make the center you just start to make the edge, and join with the center. It is a charted pattern. I love charted pattern more than written one. I have made this doily just to practise the normal (ds) and picots.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
It gets some times to end it. Just one bad memory about this doily; I have made some mistakes in edge , and had to cut them out. I don't like to wrap tatting out. It is so boring, slow, and spoil the thread too specially when you work with shuttle so when I discovered the mistake, I cut that part out, and start from beginning ( with nervous of course ) lol. finally it is finished.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

I have found this pattern in a Spanish magazine, and did it.<br />
See their pictures. I will show you how to do it step by step later. Hope you like them.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-qYt4w3OqxPPgD0y2cR-7ioSgOvqAIcicZfhkwcrpqsEurr1PmBfOwjtApknf_b_h0E7H_WUirrHaA4tebOV6xUk33kgAcmbbJMop4Fntci_h9PFRGdqdeHMvtz3daEkpZDKt5IMiwTPd/s1600/IMG_20141204_145919.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-qYt4w3OqxPPgD0y2cR-7ioSgOvqAIcicZfhkwcrpqsEurr1PmBfOwjtApknf_b_h0E7H_WUirrHaA4tebOV6xUk33kgAcmbbJMop4Fntci_h9PFRGdqdeHMvtz3daEkpZDKt5IMiwTPd/s1600/IMG_20141204_145919.jpg" height="640" width="228" /></a></div>
The other one<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Another picture for both of them<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRnnGTtuisqOIT4CiTbz9ITIqIdnKt2aLoaPHLGMPbZT-N262W_i3hsFKupGZPC_8AbdFI_O5O79kY4VpvZs5BsBhbN-NLhxYLtm1HMQQ2H8gXGMEvJAOPqv3ul4dvGdeIjyz5xeUASTss/s1600/IMG_20141204_150020.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRnnGTtuisqOIT4CiTbz9ITIqIdnKt2aLoaPHLGMPbZT-N262W_i3hsFKupGZPC_8AbdFI_O5O79kY4VpvZs5BsBhbN-NLhxYLtm1HMQQ2H8gXGMEvJAOPqv3ul4dvGdeIjyz5xeUASTss/s1600/IMG_20141204_150020.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
The original pattern tells us to use two different sizes of threads to do this bookmark. I have done this with the blue-green one, and I have used the same size of thread with the red-green one.<br />
we must use two shuttles to do this bookmark.<br />
I have used a big bead at the end of each other , and a tassel to decorate my bookmarks.<br />
<br />
Happy tatting. <br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGuY8o-Z8V24PqQJ-P3O8sqXyeVvDGuwFqhA8JbEK57T7KI-bT0SFz6IsuYku5p6f9lqt8-KGJD9nfRsqPWzN3WT0ThUvIO8BRoQNRVgw15iIMcx_ZqNdbzX9pcMYzZcS3QmZuT8Zz2aAz/s1600/Image011.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGuY8o-Z8V24PqQJ-P3O8sqXyeVvDGuwFqhA8JbEK57T7KI-bT0SFz6IsuYku5p6f9lqt8-KGJD9nfRsqPWzN3WT0ThUvIO8BRoQNRVgw15iIMcx_ZqNdbzX9pcMYzZcS3QmZuT8Zz2aAz/s1600/Image011.jpg" height="320" width="286" /></a></div>
What I have learned doing this motif?<br />
1) I have learned to do "Folded Join" at the end of first row so it won't be twisted join.<br />
2) I have learned to do "split chain" so I can go to the next row without cutting the thread.<br />
3)I have learned to do a "Mock Ring" , and "Mock picot" too .<br />
4) I have learned to do a "Floated Ring".<br />
See how it is important motif!!!!<br />
<br />
Happy tatting for you all.<br />

<br />
set of Sewmate Brand shuttles<br />
there are two kinds of Sewmate shuttles, one with tip, and the other one is tip-less. Mine are tip-less as you see, they are about 7cm tall, 2cm wide, and 1cm height. It is really so lovely colorful shuttles to use with both thick and thinner threads. It is comfortable, and not heavy if you don't overload it with thread. It is very good for beginners in my opinion.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg92NOQdt5tJpmeFzVeXmmH7eMcu5WCWVEDzM1ydWSj3wsBo5nc25zjVQAvp9Q8HZ_zswihzuj-vGmvaHTDiVQKkQASDz4K0D0zwv6J4spXrg8LZOMsk4NaA91LOUevOCpDefxtmumJ8f3q/s1600/IMG_20141204_145647.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg92NOQdt5tJpmeFzVeXmmH7eMcu5WCWVEDzM1ydWSj3wsBo5nc25zjVQAvp9Q8HZ_zswihzuj-vGmvaHTDiVQKkQASDz4K0D0zwv6J4spXrg8LZOMsk4NaA91LOUevOCpDefxtmumJ8f3q/s1600/IMG_20141204_145647.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
Prym Shuttles<br />
This shuttles are 6.5cm tall , almost 2cm wide, and 0.5cm (half cm) height. I love love the body of this shuttle, it is so slim, and I love its movements through the thread. It is tip-less as you see so you must use a crochet hook with it. This shuttle is not suitable for beginners-in my own opinion- because it just work with very very fine thread. It is an amazing when you start working with thin threads.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5M5yTXhWHIJtpxGekYIVAxtrm250qWxkdKxCRagyAA6vN42d18BuacB9fE0lEx8pLrvLPeQBBZkjimqlO-Y2rNEvkVhEJ7Hj9ukVa3wdI5N9RRx7p554jT4mAZE-iO0zao9djIglIlppG/s1600/IMG_20141204_145728.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5M5yTXhWHIJtpxGekYIVAxtrm250qWxkdKxCRagyAA6vN42d18BuacB9fE0lEx8pLrvLPeQBBZkjimqlO-Y2rNEvkVhEJ7Hj9ukVa3wdI5N9RRx7p554jT4mAZE-iO0zao9djIglIlppG/s1600/IMG_20141204_145728.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
Aero shuttle,<br />
This shuttle is 8cm from tip to tip tall, 2cm wide, 1.3 cm height. As you see this shuttle has a hook in the end of it, so you don't have to use a crochet hook with it. It is shuttle with bobbin, and comes with an extra bobbin with it. It is lovely , and handy to use, but -in my own opinion -it is not for beginners too because it is not easy to deal with it, and I think it works with thin thread. You can load it with a thicker thread, but its hook is really so small to a degree you cannot use it with thick thread. <br />
<br />

Very cheap shuttles,<br />
Those are copy of Clover shuttle. They are Chinese products, and it is very cheap. They are the first shuttles I owned. I have bought them from ebay for 1.5 dollars!!!!!!. Thanks China so much for their cheap products. I always use cheap tools, yarn, and thread when I start to learn new craft. This one -in my own opinion- is very good for beginners. You don't have to carry hook with you , it is light to carry, and very easy to load it. Just one bad thing about the Chinese copy its tips are not tight enough, but still thank China for cheap products which give me a chance to start learning my crafts.<br />

Here is two box for your tatting thread.<br />
They were boxes of cake! and I saw them clear, and have a whole from upper part so thought it will be very good to keep my thread clean, and easy to work with specially if I work with two different colors. I have cleaned them, and dried, then used them as you saw in the picture.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKrYlD5kWJy2p0DxpkgunXArfdk1hYNshzZfeRiZHV4C8RR0T0cDwHJ2AG0Qs8Sa0FbAsebX3iPZq8VXIMBdToGHp9rgq520xB5tYp7lHx48lw3QD6q7afbT8SflkFjnLk7gGZ2P-mNikg/s1600/IMG_20141204_152756.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKrYlD5kWJy2p0DxpkgunXArfdk1hYNshzZfeRiZHV4C8RR0T0cDwHJ2AG0Qs8Sa0FbAsebX3iPZq8VXIMBdToGHp9rgq520xB5tYp7lHx48lw3QD6q7afbT8SflkFjnLk7gGZ2P-mNikg/s1600/IMG_20141204_152756.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
second idea,<br />
picot gauge<br />
You may know that picot gauge will cost you about 6 $ or more. I have made my own gauge picot for free. Just piece of cartoon or plastic, and measure 3mm, 5mm, 10mm, 15mm, 20mm or more to do your own gauge. Here is a picture for this idea.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiue4iL6vZFbKSXGXOEJFKiYKf8xjGXhd5s4bcrYMeF_vbuAfZYp-UXwsluxRIry9ZZ9ePRN9x74RTY_QgHy1XdAKNdGwMvO8RaR4QUIIWLmpTcKlinxMBEkXbilZbw0Z0-I72mUsBVd5le/s1600/IMG_20141204_153040.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiue4iL6vZFbKSXGXOEJFKiYKf8xjGXhd5s4bcrYMeF_vbuAfZYp-UXwsluxRIry9ZZ9ePRN9x74RTY_QgHy1XdAKNdGwMvO8RaR4QUIIWLmpTcKlinxMBEkXbilZbw0Z0-I72mUsBVd5le/s1600/IMG_20141204_153040.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
Third idea,<br />
I have kept my shuttles using a pen box!!! It is big enough for them, and hard to keep my shuttles safe. Here is the picture<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQtL6ujxXN0WfXi1JxYYZtFUwimMod7gzcIJO6vE9oRFrNXIigAg-r_OrTMT8rmZmW5ih_khzTHlpwW0u-DKyHhwNVraN10DCSwSfst4rfKzCx1O41P70C_t5VyaBVULOvghZAcBh3LtLf/s1600/IMG_20141204_152835.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQtL6ujxXN0WfXi1JxYYZtFUwimMod7gzcIJO6vE9oRFrNXIigAg-r_OrTMT8rmZmW5ih_khzTHlpwW0u-DKyHhwNVraN10DCSwSfst4rfKzCx1O41P70C_t5VyaBVULOvghZAcBh3LtLf/s1600/IMG_20141204_152835.jpg" height="317" width="320" /></a></div>

They called it "Slave bracelet" , but I don't like this name. Maybe I will call it "Henna Bracelet" why??? because it seems like Black Henna Tattoo which some Arabic countries do it in wedding's celebration , and also Indian ladies do it on their lovely hands. <br />
<br />
I have made this bracelet using Egyptian cotton size 20, and two shuttles. I think my tatting stitches are better in this work. what is your opinion ??? see them better or still the same?????<br />
I have tried this bracelet using needle, but don't like it with needle so I have replaced it with the shuttle.<br />
<br />
Oh I hear you !!! telling me you still learn , and you design ?!! lololl my answer is there are two things I like about crafts one of them is to learn them , second is to try designing . I most thing I don't like is to work, and work without anything new.<br />

Nothing new about this tatting piece. I am trying to make my stitches even, and nice because I still don't like my stitches. I don't control thread in a good way yet specially when I am doing a chain. I feel my fingers weak, and didn't give me a good tension yet.<br />
<br />
In tatting we use the middle finger to tight the stitches, but my middle finger is weak, and didn't grab the thread tight yet. I use the index in crochet not middle so I need to train this finger more for tatting.<br />
<br />
I use shuttle better now, control it better specially it is a small shuttle, and light weight. Also there is no problem to flip the stitches now. I completely flip the stitches smoothly , and fast too. Shuttle doesn't fall in my hand any more lolololll .<br />
